A FOOT THROUGH THE DOOR OF HOLLYWOOD
This week, our member Tony Glynn will be presenting an evening reviewing some of his observations of 50+ years ago. Drawing upon his experience as a former film projectionist for the Rank Organisation’s Odeon, he’ll be talking about the celebrated films All About Eve, which starred Bette Davis and also Sunset Boulevard; the two films collectively winning nine Oscars in 1950. The film industry of the period was also significantly affected by the officially titled House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) investigations into alleged Communist activity, led by Senator McCarthy. Tony is an authority in his field so come along and learn about cinema from the not-so-distant past.
