Happy New Year! Come along and take part in a quiz that Alex has planned for us.

NEW YEAR PARTY (SATURDAY) – Please purchase tickets in advance.                                                                                     Members ONLY.
This week we’ll be looking at Foley. I’m sure that you will have seen Foley Artist or Foley Editor in film or TV credits. Foley is the reproduction of everyday sound effects that are added to film, video, and other media in post-production to enhance audio quality. These reproduced sounds can be anything from the swishing of clothing and footsteps to squeaky doors and breaking glass. We’ll be learning about the work of the Foley Artist. Do you know the difference between diegetic and non-diegetic sound?  You’ll find out.

This evening will also be hands-on, so all members are asked to bring at least one item that can be used to create sound effects. Suggestions include a bag of leaves, polythene bags, cotton wool, vegetables such as leek, lettuce or any other vegetable/item of your choice. The sound effects will be recorded and we’ll see the results. Regarding recording, if you have it, please bring any recording device that records on an SD card.

This will be an evening exploring the creative use of sound effects.

This evening, we will be looking at how to manage visual transitioning effects when moving from one scene to another, perhaps to affect a change in mood. In the latter half of the evening, we will change that mood by looking at the subject of film noir.
